Thomas Greg participates in ICMedia 2012

Multinational present in nine countries and one of the oldest and most respected security printing companies in the world, Thomas Greg will present in the 2012 ICMedia, innovations in RFID devices, solutions for large events comprising: identification, control, tracking, safe payment, data collection and other safety devices.

Thomas Greg Director of Operations and Marketing, Claro Pinheiro Polycarpo, believes that the company's participation in 2012 ICMedia is a great opportunity to show our entire technology and experience gained in over 50 years of global operations. "This is the biggest event for the innovations and technologies of personal and public safety in Brazil. Here we show that we have capacity to act on several fronts, allowing us to meet the most specific needs of our customers and surprise them with complete and innovative solutions, "says Claro Pinheiro.

During the 2012 ICMedia Thomas Greg stand will present its visitors solutions in RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification), which is becoming more widespread for automatic identification of objects without the need for direct physical contact. With the placement of the RFID tag, you can retrieve or record information about the authenticity and validity of the producer, bringing benefits such as: optimization of profits in the logistics chain; integration processes in sales, faster production and distribution processes in physical inventory; protection of confidential information and faster shipment.

NEC presents security solutions

Property and facilities protection such as harbors and airports, can be a complex task. With the proximity of major sporting events like the World Cup and the Olympics, this issue becomes even more sensitive.

Thinking about that, NEC, a multinational leader in integrating IT and networking technologies will present the J-Bis, a system for immigration control at airports and border points using biometric recognition for travelers identification.

The company will also present other solutions aimed at the security market, such as the Super Resolution technology, which enhances the resolution in low definition images analysis by crossing information database (or library) of categorized images, assisting researchers in looking for people or vehicles.

Another novelty is the Meta Search, a video processing solution that can analyze various characteristics of persons or the environment in order to locate suspects through information such as sex, age, color of clothing facial features, among others.

NEC will present also a High Sensitivity Camera, an advanced technology that lets you capture video in very low light environment with quality far superior to current systems and video surveillance.

Image analysis and biometrics in debate

Concern for the safety of major sports events that Brazil will host in the upcoming years will be discussed by officials, forensic experts, researchers and students at the International Conference of Forensic Science in Multimedia and Electronic Security.

The Dutch Forensic Institute scientist Zeno Geradts will present a study on the development of images and videos analysis for forensic use. An expert in image analysis and biometrics, the speaker currently develops projects involving digital and multimedia evidence in the areas of camera identification, video streams repair and image analysis.

The use of such technology may inhibit the actions of criminals and troublesome fans during the 2013 Confederations Cup , 2014  World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. The usage of these data by security agencies, together with a network of information, allow a prior knowledge of potential threats in the scenario of large gatherings of people.

Moreover, the state of the art science for authenticity of digital images and video analisys will be presented to Brazilian experts, along with several other methods used around the world. Among the novelties in the field of identification, is the use of online databases, such as YouTube, plus new facial recognition techniques and photogrammetry for measuring the height of subjects and methods to compare other biometric data.

Workshop with Jurrien Bijhold

Workshops on Monday and Tuesday, 17-18 September 2012.

Before the start of ICMedia, a 2-day workshop is offered to people working in the field of forensic image analysis, and people interested in research and development for this field of expertise. A special presentation is offered to all people working in the field of crime scene investigation and who are interested in new methods for crime scene investigation and training of forensic awareness for first responders.

The presenter, Jurrien Bijhold, wants to promote exchange of knowledge and experience between practitioners, experts, developers and researchers all over the world. As chairman of the European working Group for Digital Imaging (ENFSI-DIWG), with many contacts in America and Asia, but not in South America, he has experienced that in every country something new and valuable can be learned for the development of this field of expertise. For this reason , he wants to make the workshop as interactive as possible.

During the workshop, there will also be opportunities to discuss the topics of the presentations if this is convenient for all attendees.

The workshop will start with an small introduction to the Netherlands Forensic Institute a, the group for image analysis (with many case examples) and an overview of international organizations active in this field. This presentation could lead to a change of topics for the remaining presentations. (estimated time 2-3 hours)

Then, remaining time is spend on three topics in a random order:

     - Applications of 3d modeling in video analysis, including photogrammetry and the use of reference recordings and statistics (2-3 hours)

     - Object comparison and facial image comparison with examples and discussions, including the creation of reference images demonstrated with a webcam

simulating a surveillance camera (2 hours)

     - Presentation and discussion of the CSI the Hague project and results (1-2 hours)

To register for the Workshop is necessary to send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

CCTV guide under development by Brazilian Forensic Experts

Brazilian Forensic Experts are developing a guide for indoor CCTV systems to be used as project reference that should bring several recommendations for design, installation and operation of such systems, taking into account forensic demands for evidence analysis.  The vast majority of CCTV systems operating today is unsatisfactory, generating useless data for its owner, public security and criminal prosecution. Hopefully, the suggested guidelines and recommendations applied to surveillance, monitoring and identification systems and activities will result in a more efficient production of audiovisual high quality evidence. The guide will cover topics on security cameras, lenses, lighting, positioning, transmission, storage, testing, roadmaps, applicability and design requirements from the forensics point of view.
